Stony Hill (2019)
Clarsach
This a short piece written for clarsach (lever harp), as a gift for harpist Alan Carr’s 70th birthday. It is a light and simple piece which shows off some of the techniques of the clarsach in a mystical, folk-like tonal language.
Stony Hill is a local promontory in Glenbuchat, the region of Northeast Scotland where Alan resides. I was concentrating my thoughts on this region as I was writing this piece: hopefully the music gives off something akin to the aura of this rural landscape.
